E così Sofia ha deciso di venire al mondo, un po’ prima del previsto.

È successo esattamente il 6 agosto alle 12.47, ora di Bangkok, dopo una notte di contrazioni controllate benissimo da Lucija e un travaglio durato, da quando siamo entrati in ospedale, appena 4 ore. Lucija è stata, come sempre, bravissima ed è riuscita a rendere semplice anche un momento particolare come questo.

Venendo a Sofia, la signorina pesava 2 chili e 480 grammi, era lunga 49 centimetri e assomiglia molto più a Lucija che a me: capelli chiari, occhi ancora da capire, naso e bocca un po’ di entrambi, piedi tipici della famiglia Perko. Da me sembra aver preso le ciglia lunghe e qualche espressione facciale, perché, per il resto, anche il modo in cui mette le manine per dormire, è molto simile a Lucija. E pure il singhiozzo che, ogni tanto, le viene.

Siamo stati 3 giorni in ospedale e ci hanno trattato come una famiglia reale. E svegliarsi la mattina con, da una parte, una vista bellissima su Bangkok e, dall’altra, l’ancora più bella visione di Sofia accanto a Lucija, così addormentata e pigra pure per poppare. Ce l’hanno lasciata per quasi tre giorni interi, cosicché, adesso, averla qui in casa nostra, non è stato poi così drastico.

Cosa si prova ad essere padri? Un’emozione incredibile, più forte di qualsiasi altra cosa provata in quasi trent’anni di vita, soprattutto quando si vede solo la testa uscire e rimanere lì per un attimo, appena prima che tutto il corpicino esca completamente. L’averla tra le mani, la sua testa in una tua mano e poterla vedere da vicino è, poi, una sensazione speciale che ti fa venire voglia di uscire e dirlo a chiunque si incontra quanto sia bella la nascita di un bambino. E, parallelamente, in contrapposizione, anche la voglia di non farlo sapere a nessuno, di stare da soli, di tenere il telefono spento, di essere solo tu, tua moglie e vostra figlia in mezzo. Quello che c’è intorno, in momenti come questi, non ha veramente molto senso. Ma lo avrà molto presto. E sarà Sofia a darglielo.

And so Sofia decided to arrive in this world, a bit sooner than we expected her to.

It’s happened on the 6th August at 12.47 pm, Bangkok time, after a night of contractions, well controlled by Lucija and a labor that lasted, since we entered the hospital, only about 4 hours. Lucija, as usual, was great and able to make even this particular moment seem a simple thing.

As for Sofia, the small lady was 2 kilos and 480 grams, 49 centimeters long and looks more like Lucija than me: bright hair, eyes still to be defined, nose and mouth a bit like both of us, feet typical of Perko’s family. From me it’s seems she took the long eyelashes and some facial expression of mine, because then even the way she puts her small hands in sleeping position is very similar to how Lucija does it. And the hiccup that she often suffers aswell.

We spent 3 days in hospital and they treated us like royals. And waking up in the morning with, on one side, a wonderful view of Bangkok and, on the other, the even more beautiful view of Sofia beside Lucija, so sleepy and too lazy even to suckle. They left her to us for almost three full days, so that now, to have her in our house, doesn’t come difficult to handle at all.

How does it feel being a father? It’s an incredible emotion, stronger than anything I experienced in my 30 years of life, when you see only her head coming out and lingering there for a while, just before that the whole small body comes out completely. Having her in your hands, her head in one of your hands and being able to see her from so near is a really special sensation that makes you want to go out and tell to everybody you meet how beautiful the birth of a baby is. And, at the same time, on the other hand, you feel also like not telling it to anyone, and to be alone, to keep your phone silent, to stay alone, you, your wife, with your daughter in the middle. What’s around you, in moments like this, doesn’t really make any real sense. It will, however, soon. And it will be Sofia  to do so.
